What is IELTS?
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It is a test of English proficiency for non-native English speakers who wish to study or work in countries where English is the language of communication. The British Council jointly manages IELTS, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English, and was established in 1989.
IELTS tests four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. The listening and reading sections are the same for all candidates, but the writing and speaking sections differ depending on whether you are taking the Academic or General Training module.
The IELTS Academic test is for those who want to study at university level in an English-speaking country or who need to register with professional bodies. The IELTS General Training test is for those who want to migrate to an English-speaking country (Australia, Canada, New Zealand) or apply for training programs and courses.
IELTS results are reported on a 9-band scale from 1 (non-user) to 9 (expert user). You will receive a score for each skill (listening, reading, writing and speaking) and an overall band score. Your overall band score will be rounded to the nearest whole or half band.
